Day Ward General Information

This is located in the foyer of Ward 23. It is open from 8am-5pm Mon-Friday. Patients see a doctor in clinic prior to receiving their chemotherapy treatment so it can be a long day.

Some chemotherapy treatment can take 30 minutes, while other chemotherapy can take 6-8 hours. Most chemotherapy is given intravenously. Patients generally sit in lazy-boy chairs to have their treatment. MODW Photo People receiving chemotherapy are encouraged to have family / whanau present with them when they talk with the doctor and during their treatment if they wish.

We welcome feedback on the service we provide, positive or negative. We constantly try to monitor and improve our service delivery. Feedback can be given in several ways:

  • Tell someone, preferably a staff member in the department concerned
  • Maori Patient Satisfaction Survey – Available from Maori Health Unit staff
  • ‘Tell Us What You Think’ forms available in every department in the hospital. May be anonymous or signed.
