Regional Cancer Treatment Service (RCTS)

Cancer treatment services are provided to patients in Taranaki, Whanganui, Tarawhiti, Hawkes Bay and MidCentral District Health Boards by the Regional Cancer Treatment Service (RCTS).

  • Clinical Haematology


    The clinical haematology department is involved in diagnosing and treating diseases of the blood and bone marrow.

  • Clinical Trials


    If you are a patient in the Regional Cancer Treatment Services (RCTS) you may be asked by your doctor if you would like to participate in a clinical trial. Whether you have been asked or not, you may want to know more about clinical trials and how they are carried out in our Clinical Trials Unit.

  • Mana Maori


    The Maori Health unit provides advice and support to MidCentral Health on the provision of appropriate services to meet Mäori health needs as well as providing support for whanau.

  • Medical Oncology


    Medical Oncology is the cancer treatment specialty which relates to chemotherapy treatment for solid tumours (cancer cells which clump together to form lumps as in breast, lung and bowel cancers).

  • Palliative Care


    Palliative care aims to support people and their families who are dealing with life threatening illness.

  • Radiation Oncology


    As a specialist centre, our aim is to provide optimal evidence-based care and to continually strive for excellence and efficiency in cancer treatment. Our well-qualified team is committed to treating you as an individual, with a high level of professional care and attention. We treat approximately 120 patients per day.

  • Regional Cancer Treatment Service Regions


    The Regional Cancer Treatment service covers a population of 555,000 people over a catchment area which includes Gisborne (Tairawhiti) , Hawkes Bay, Taranaki, Whanganui and Wairairapa.

    Welcome to the support services home page. Through the Regional Cancer Treatment Service (RCTS) you are able to access additional support services such as those linked to this page. In the future it is anticipated that more services will be added to those already available.

  • Ward 23 Oncology


    Ward 23 is the inpatient ward of the Regional Cancer Treatment Service. It is an 18 bed ward and provides care and treatment within the three main cancer specialties: Medical Oncology (Chemotherapy), Radiation Oncology (Radiation Therapy) and Clinical Haematology (Blood Conditions).
