"Sexuality - the core of your being"
Clinics
A team of receptionists, specialists, nurses, doctors and laboratory technologists and assistants look after the sexual health of people in the region.
The Sexual Health Service provides:
- A FREE and confidential service for everyone.
- A Specialist Service
- Information and advice on sexual health.
- Testing and treatment of sexually transmissible infections (STIs), including HIV/AIDS.
- Clinics in Palmerston North, Dannevirke and Levin.
You need to have a sexual health check:
- If you or your partner have other sexual partners.
- If you notice pain on passing urine or during sex, if you have warts or sores on the genital area, an unusual discharge, rash or smell, or if your sexual partner has these symptoms.
- If you have had unsafe sex.
You may wish to attend
- If you would like a check-up or are worried about HIV/AIDS, hepatitis or another sexually transmissible infection.
- If you simply require information or advice on sexual health or safer sex
Remember: –
- You may have a sexually transmitted infection (STI) without having any symptoms
- Because you might not have symptoms STIs can be taken into relationships. Being in a long term relationship is no guarantee you can’t have an STI.
How the Clinics work
- Appointments are preferred but walk-ins may be accepted.
- We require 24 hours notice for cancellations.
- A check-up includes meeting with a doctor or nurse to discuss what sort of check-up you need. This is followed by a physical examination and a blood test if necessary.
- Your test results are given to you only.
- If you have an infection or a sexual health problem, this will be discussed with you and you will be given FREE advice and treatment.
- FREE condoms are available from the clinic.
- HIV testing is provided.
