Eating Disorders
Specialist services for clients with an eating disorder are available within Mental Health Services.
Specialty care is delivered through the Child, Adolescent & Family Service for under 19 year olds, and through the four adult Community Mental Health Teams for clients 19 years and over (Palmerston North, Fielding, Tararua and Horowhenua).
Acute and routine eating disorder assessments are available on acceptance of referral to one of the above services. Urgent referrals can be seen on the day of referral if required.
Following assessment both CAFS and Adult clients are assigned a keyworker, with psychiatry, medical, dietitian and psychology input being individualised to their treatment plan. CAFS referrals may also include urgent or routine Paediatrician consultation.
About our Team
Central to the above services is the role of the Eating Disorder Clinician, who oversees all accepted referrals and maintains close contacts with our regional ‘hub’ - the Central Region Eating Disorder Service in Johnsonville, Wellington (CREDS).
The Eating Disorder Clinician is also available to any primary health clinicians or clients/family members who would like information about eating disorders, services available, or need assistance to refer.
