Nicholas Glubb

Nicholas began his career in health as a nurse, working clinically predominantly in mental health and disability settings.  He has held clinical leadership roles including Senior Nursing Officer, Cherry Farm Hospital, prior to taking up roles with a wider organisational focus.  Nicholas has experience in operational and change management at department, service, and whole of organisation level, for the purposes of service development, deinstitutionalisation and most recently improved financial sustainability.  Nicholas is the Operations Director, Specialist Community and Regional Services and reports to the General Manager, MidCentral Health.  He provides strategic oversight to the following service areas:

  • Public Health
  • Child & Adolescent Oral Health
  • Women’s Health
  • Child Health
  • Mental Health
  • Clinical Support (including Blood Service & Laboratory
  • Services Contracts)
  • Regional Cancer Treatment Service
  • Breastscreen Coast to Coast
  • Rural facilities

Nicholas is responsible, in partnership with the other Directors, for the strategic leadership and management of the services falling within the direct responsibility of this role.  This includes having a “whole of MidCentral Health” approach to ensuring the delivery of sustainable services within budget, revenue and activity targets, and supporting the delivery of contemporary multi-disciplinary models of care.

Kim Fry

Kim is the Allied Health Director for MidCentral Health and Whanganui DHB.

Kim’s background is in Social Work and has worked in physical health and mental health as well as Social Service organisations both in NZ and in London.  Within MidCentral Health Kim has worked as a Social Worker, Team Leader and Service Coordinator. She has also worked clinically in the Child Development Team and was the Professional Adviser for Social Work for several years.

The Allied Health Director role sits alongside the Director of Nursing and Medical Director at a MidCentral Health strategic level, ensuring Allied Health have a voice at strategic and clinical governance level.

Dr. Jerry Varghese

Jerry Varghese is a consultant psychiatrist who has worked in MidCentral Health Since 2004. the primary area of clinical interest revolves around General Adult psychiatry. With in this he has a special interest in Coexisting disorders between addiction and mental health, and ECT. He is a strong proponent of a combination of psychological and psychosocial support along with other forms of medical interventions. Among his academic interests currently is management in health services.

Dr. Varghese was appointed to the post of Clinical Director in 2007 and Director of Area Mental Health services from June 2010. He is also Acting Clinical Director for Psychogeriatrician services. Dr. Varghese is also director of training in Palmerston North for mental health residency program. He sits in the Midcentral Mental Health Local Network and is part of the Central North Mental Health Network (MHAN). At an organizational level Dr. Varghese is part of the Ethics Advisory Board, and was previously part of the MidCentral Credentialing committee.

Dr. Varghese’s philosophy of work and leadership revolves around being involved, leading from the front, participatory with high expectation of every one he works with, to be patient centric and holistic in their day to day work.

Jeannette Wylie

Jeannette is Service Manager General Adult Mental Health (GAMH) services which includes; the acute inpatient unit Ward 21 Palmerston North Hospital, urban and rural community mental health teams located at Feilding, Dannevirke, Pahiatua and Horowhenua / Otaki, and the Mental Health Emergency team.

As a Service Manager Jeannette is responsible for the development and maintenance of the services to meet the performance requirements, in consultation with the Clinical Director, Nurse Director, to achieve MidCentral’s Annual Plan.

Aroha Noema

Aroha is the Service Manager for the Māori and Pacifika service based in Palmerston North located at Midcentral Health Hospital. Oranga Hinengaro is situated in close proximity to the General Adult Health and Specialty Teams. The service also provides coverage to Dannivirke, Pahiatua and Horowhenua /Otaki.

The role requires an engagement approach that works to embed strategies and actions that ensures responsiveness to cultural concepts and Whanau Ora are in all Mental Health Pathways.

Working alongside colleagues who have leadership responsibilities for our workforce, Consumers and Whanau such as our Professional Advisors, Consumer & Whanau Advisors, Clinical Director and Service Managers who have a shared purpose for our services.

Richard Atkinson

Richard is Manager for Specialist Mental Health Services including Child, Adolescent and Family , Early Intervention, Intensive Rehabilitation, Alcohol and Other Drug, Maternal and Eating Disorder Services. He has other portfolios which include Service Coordination, Training and Development and Dialectic Behaviour Therapy.

Richard has worked in Mental Health Services for many years as a psychiatric nurse in a number of both clinical and management positions. He came to New Zealand from the United Kingdom in 1988.

John White

John White, RCpN, MN (Mental Health), is the Nurse Director, Mental Health Service for MidCentral Health. He has been a Registered Nurse since 1991 and worked in a variety of roles and settings within the mental health and addiction field since then.
The Nurse Director reports to the Director of Nursing and is primarily responsible for; ensuring nursing professional standards are maintained, the development of the Annual Mental Health & Addictions Nursing Plan, participating in setting the strategic direction for the mental health and addictions Line and essentially anything else to do with the development of and/or performance of nurses and the nursing service within the Line.

Erica Henderson

Erica Henderson graduated from the Massey University Social Work Programme. She has worked in a variety of management and clinical roles at MidCentral Health over the past 25 years and is currently  a Professional Advisor for Social Work across MidCentral Health. A key aspect of the role is to provide professional direction and strategic advice for Social Work across Mental Health Services.

Tim Dunn NZROT

Tim is the Professional Advisor for Occupational Therapy services at MidCentral Health. In this role Tim is primarily responsible for the maintenance of professional standards, the discipline profile and strategic direction of the profession within the organization.

Occupational therapy services within mental health services include Community Mental Health (P North and Horowhenua), AOD service, CAF service, Ward 21 acute inpatient unit and the Intensive rehab service.

Occupational therapy services are also provided to the physical service lines including community, rural, inpatient wards and rehabilitation wards.

Tim also works 0.5 FTE as Occupational Therapist in the child and adolescent mental health services.

Guy Breakwell

Guy Breakwell is the Professional Advisor of Psychology for MidCentral Health, which is a role that covers both mental health and other areas of MidCentral Health in which psychologists are employed. Guy is a Clinical Psychologist. He has worked for MidCentral Health Mental Health Service in various capacities since 1994. Currently he works as the Psychology Advisor part time (0.4 FTE) and has part time clinical roles for the Alcohol and Other Drug Service, Tararua Community Mental Health Service, and the Dialectical Behaviour Therapy Programme.
