Ward 28 Coronary Care Unit

The Coronary Care/High Dependency Unit (CCU/HDU) caters for patients requiring  a high level of nursing specialised care. Those conditions can range from  acute respiratory failure,  myocardial infarction, surgical/medical  highly dependent patient’s requiring high skilled nursing  care.

CCU/HDU layout comprises of a six bed unit with a centrally located nurses station. Each bed space is independent of the other and has a cardiac monitor.

Patient’s who are assessed as more acute are placed in bays 3-4.
 
The average length of stay varies for each patient, therefore  patient’s will  transfer into and out from CCU/HDU at different times of the day/night. Nursing staff will endeavour to notify the next of kin. 

Nursing staff require strict compliance of stopping at the entrance door to CCU/HDU before entering, as an acute environment an emergency situation maybe in progress.

Only two visitors at one time may be by the bed side. As a high acuity area, patient’s are very unstable and  require a quiet environment so noise level is kept to a minimum. You maybe requested to leave so please follow instructions.

The ward 28 nursing floor is a step down cardiac nursing floor and also caters for medical patient’s with varying conditions.  The ward layout is 3-four bedded room, with two single side rooms.

Nursing and medical staff work collaboratively in partnership to ensure optimum care is provided to all patients. Other MidCentral Health services such as social workers, physiotherapists and occupational therapists support patients in the ward, services also include the Palliative Care team, and Hospital in the Home.
