Respiratory
Respiratory medicine is one that diagnoses and treats patients with diseases that affect the lungs and breathing tubes. If required, your primary care practitioner can refer you to MidCentral Health for respiratory function tests or the sleep disorder breathing clinic.
Respiratory Services at MidCentral Health include:
- An outpatient service based at Palmerston North Hospital’s Ambulatory Care Centre, which provides specialist respiratory medicine, respiratory nursing services, respiratory laboratory services, sleep clinic and integrated services with primary care.
- Inpatient care of respiratory patients
Requests for an assessment of the need for home oxygen are made to this service. Referrals can also be made for specialist asthma and pulmonary rehabilitation programmes
