Assessment and Care using InterRAI

InterRai is a new programme that will allow staff to access a clinical assessment system through the Internet when working out in the community.

InterRai is designed to help staff assess the medical, rehabilitation and support requirements of the older person so they can enjoy staying in their own home for longer. This tool will improve the assessment experience and outcomes for older people by identifying what help and support they require against a number of factors including vision, continence, nutrition and health prevention.

The roll out of the interRAI tool is a government initiative that will see all DHBs implementing it over four years ending in 2012.  This is a phased approach intending to bring consistency to data collection for the older peoples services.

At MidCentral District Health Board (MDHB) this will be a phased approach with Supportlinks over a 2-3 month period as new staff are trained and processes are embedded in an approach that minimises disruption to any clients or staff.

The roll out will start at MDHB in June 2010.
