Regional Women's Health Service
The Whanganui and MidCentral District Health Boards (WDHB and MDHB) will shortly be considering a proposal to make changes to the Regional Women’s Health Service. The proposal, led by the clinical leaders with management from both DHBs, is driven by ensuring the safety and quality of services for women and their babies, well into the future.
Feedback for the new service model is now closed - closing date for feedback was 4pm Wednesday 9 May 2012.
Proposed Plan and Process for Feedback
The proposed new model of care for the provision of women’s health services in both MidCentral and Whanganui DHB areas is now available. This proposal has been put together by our clinical and management teams to address a longstanding staffing situation that has existed. The proposal is driven by safety and quality considerations and your feedback is sought.
In summary, it is proposed that Wanganui district women having a normal pregnancy, labour and birth will continue to have their babies in their local birthing centres, including Whanganui Hospital. However, services will be provided from the larger regional health service at Palmerston North Hospital for those women who require specialist obstetric and acute gynaecology care. Pre and ante natal care will continue to be provided from Whanganui DHB, wherever possible.
Further information on the proposal is contained in the documents:
If you or your organisation wish to meet with MidCentral DHB to discuss the RWHS proposal, please email your request to the MidCentral DHB Communications Unit:
