Planning & Funding Health & Disability Services
The Funding Division of MidCentral DHB has responsibility for purchasing (funding) health services and monitoring contracts valued at around $480 million per annum.
The health and wellbeing of the district’s population drive MDHB’s planning and purchasing decisions.
Services Funded
The services funded are as follows:
- Support Services for Disabled and Older People
- Maori Health
- Mental Health and Addiction Services
- Personal Health
- Primary Health Care
- Secondary and Tertiary Health Services
The Funding Division is also responsible for ensuring that the MidCentral DHB population has access to specialist services that are not delivered within the district, and managing and monitoring the flow of funds for these out of district services.
While the Funding Division’s responsibilities are primarily for the MidCentral DHB district, it also has responsibilities for specific national or regional contracts.
The Funding Division also has a joint responsibility, along with five other DHBs in the central region, to develop and maintain a strong regional health structure.
The health needs and priorities of MidCentral DHB’s district drive local planning and purchasing initiatives. A health needs assessment of the district is regularly undertaken.
Services purchased are in line with the national Service Coverage Schedule. This schedule describes the minimum range of health and disability support services the District Health Board must provide for its population. The Service Coverage Schedule is promulgated by the Ministry of Health and is a national standard. It includes: Maori health, mental health, personal health (primary, secondary and limited tertiary), public health and disability support services.
Around 17 staff (full time equivalents) work in the DHB’s Funding Division.
