Health Targets

Health Targets are a set of national performance measures specifically designed to improve the performance of health services across 20 District Health Boards (DHB), including MidCentral District Health Board (MDHB).

Annually the targets are reported and reviewed to ensure they align to Government health priorities.

Below Health Target reports are listed by quarter.

General information about Health Targets

In 2007 the Ministry of Health introduced national health targets aligned with the Government's strategic health priorities.  The areas selected as national health targets for  are:

  • Shorter stays in Emergency Departments
  • Improved access to surgery
  • Shorter waits for cancer treatment
  • Increased immunisation
  • Better help for smokers to quit
  • Better diabetes and cardiovascular services

For each of the national health targets, MidCentral DHB has established it own local target and reports on these publically every quarter. These targets form part of the DHB annual plan.

Further information about the national health targets can be accessed from the Ministry of Health.
