A brief profile outlining the background of external members of MidCentral DHB's committees.  The current term of appointment ends in June 2011.



External Members of Community & Public Health Advisory Committee (3)


Linda Gray

Linda is a chartered accountant and is a partner in local accounting firm, Naylor Lawrence and Associates Limited. Linda has previously worked for Coopers and Lybrand and PricewaterhouseCoopers where she has a background in audit and consulting services. During this time she undertook a wide range of assignments in the Health Sector throughout New Zealand.

Linda is the president of the Manawatu branch of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of New Zealand and also sits on the Business Studies stakeholders’ advisory committee for UCOL.
 Linda resides in Fielding and is married and has three sons. Linda has a strong interest in the performing arts. She is a Highland and National Dance teacher and adjudicates regularly throughout the country. She is involved at committee level in several Not for Profit Performing Arts associations in the Manawatu.


Charmaine Hamilton

Born in Palmerston North, Charmaine has a background in nursing and health management.  From 1992 to 2009 she was a Senior Lecturer at Massey University.  During her time at the university she has taught papers in the nursing, health and health management programmes and been a member the Massey University Human Ethics Committee and the Nursing Council of New Zealand. 

Charmaine has post graduate qualifications in health management, psychology and nursing.

Between 1965 and 1991 Charmaine worked for a range of hospitals and Area Health Boards holding various nursing positions including Chief Nursing Advisor, Wellington AHB; Principal Nurse, Silverstream Hospital; Nursing Research and Planning Officer; Waipawa, Hawkes Bay, Cook, and Waiapu Hospital Boards and Nursing Officer, Royal New Zealand Nursing Corps.

Jonathan Godfrey

Dr Jonathan Godfrey works at Massey University as a Lecturer in Statistics.  Jonathan has vision impairment and has an extensive knowledge of this area of disability.  Through his work at Massey University and the Royal NZ Foundation of the Blind he has been closely involved in promoting and advocating for blind and disabled people. 

Jonathan is a Director of the Royal NZ Foundation of the Blind, a Board Member of the Association of Blind Citizens, and Presiding Trustee of the Social Justice Trust which oversees the Central Region Advocacy Service.  He is also Secretary of the Association of Blind Citizens (Mid-central branch) and previously served on the Executive of the Disability Association of Massey University.]


Tawhiti Kunaiti

Tawhiti's background has primarily been in the retention and revitalisation of Te Reo Maori for the wellbeing of whanau Maori.  He has worked in the education and welfare sectors, and also as a researcher at Massey University’s School of Maori Studies.

In 2004, Tawhiti joined the local public health service as a Health Promotion Advisor – Sexual Health.  In 2008 he moved to the Manawatu Primary Health Organisation where he currently holds the role of Maori Liaison Manager. 

He is a keen supporter of Kapa Haka and has been involved as a performer, tutor and adjudicator at local, regional, and national events.


Nicolas Steenhout

Nicolas has worked with people who have a wide range of ages and disabilities, including physical, sensory, emotional and cognitive disabilities.  He has also worked closely with several hospitals in the Illinois area, providing disability awareness training to staff, as well as being an expert resource for patients and employees. 

Since arriving in New Zealand, Nicolas has been involved within the non-profit sector, both as a paid employee and as a volunteer.  Having attended training with Barrier Free New Zealand trust, Nicolas is in the process of becoming an accredited auditor, and a new trainer. 

Nicolas is currently Managing Director of Axian Limited, which focuses on human-computer interactions, with particular focus on web accessibility.


 

External Members of Hospital Advisory Committee (3)


Richard Orzecki

Richard is the past Tumuaki (Chairman) of Te Runanga O Raukawa, and is a self employed consultant.  His career background is in information technology and he has worked in that sector for over 25 years.

Richard is a Director, Horowhenua Primary Health Organisation and the current Chairman of Manawhenua Hauora.  He also holds a number of directorships and is involved with many voluntary organisations such as the NZ Maori Council.

In his previous role as Chairman of Te Runanga O Raukawa, Richard was instrumental in building strategic relationships between the Runanga and government agencies such as the NZ Police Central Region, Ministries of Health, Education, Social Development, Fisheries, and Te Puni Kokiri.


Kerry Simpson

Kerry is a Chartered Accountant, and Director of a local accounting firm, Brumby Simpson Partners Ltd.  As a Director she leads the firm’s commercial team, working with a variety of organisations on all aspects of their business, including strategic planning, management accounting, business development, marketing, and policies/planning.

Kerry is a member of the Manawatu Commerce Centre, and a Past Affiliate member of the Franchise Association of Australia & New Zealand.  In 1995 she was awarded the Manawatu Business Woman of the Year. 


Cynric Temple-Camp

Cynric is a Pathologist who has lived in Palmerston North since coming to New Zealand from Africa in 1987.  He is married to Elaine, who is a Haematologist at MidCentral Health and they have three children.  Cynric is the CEO of Medlab Central, which is the medical laboratory supplying pathology services in the hospital, within the city and the Manawatu, as well as in Wanganui and Hawke’s Bay. 

Cynric has served as a previous Chairman and is currently a member of the New Zealand Association of Private Pathology Practices, a business related committee overseeing community pathology practice in New Zealand.  He is a member of the Sonic Healthcare Pathology Executive Committee, which oversees laboratory operations in both New Zealand and Australia.  He currently represents the Health sector on the Manawatu Chamber of Commerce, where he has a special interest in the health infrastructure within the region. 

Cynric serves as an elected member of the New Zealand Committee of the Royal College of Pathologists of Australasia. 

In the course of his professional work, Cynric works closely with all segments of the medical community, nurses and doctors, general practitioners and specialists, pharmacists and cervical smear takers and he is deeply committed to the City and the surrounding region.
